The
Flight into Egypt O.T.
reference Psalm 55, v 6-8: And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove!
for then would I fly away, and be at rest. 7 Lo, then would I wander far
off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah. 8 I would hasten my escape
from the windy storm and tempest. |
The
Massacre of the Innocents
O.T. reference probably from Jeremiah 31.15: ‘Rachel weeping for her
children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.’ |
Christ
Among the Doctors
An interesting addition here is the image of a Dominican Friar in the right background. In The story of Fra -Angelico - Refelections in Mirrors, a paper by Cyril Gerbon, it is suggested that this might represent Fra Angelico himself. O.T. reference: Jeremiah 8 v 9: 'The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?'
